Someone almost caused an accident getting to this place. There was a Toyota Camry in front of me, the driver slammed on brakes and put on a turn signal at the last minute to get into the parking lot. That's when I looked up and noticed the building.....Mama's Seafood. It was during rush hour and I really wasn't in a hurry to get on 59 so I'm like you know what, I got time today. Did a u-turn and pulled into the parking lot. The Toyota Camry was the only other car there....went in and turns out it was elderly people behind the wheel ‍. Anyway, on to the restaurant. Place was small with a few tables. I ordered 1 fish and 9 shrimp, along with some rice. I noticed people started flooding in at this point....some of them long-time customers. One of them remarked how she'd known Tommy (owners' son and also the dude at the register) since he was a little kid. That's when I knew I'd stumbled onto something cool. The fish and shrimp were seasoned nicely. The shrimp fried rice was ok. As mentioned in other reviews the rice appears to be steamed, not fried. I added some Thai chili peppers to the rice to add some flavoring. Shrimp were my favorite of course. I'll drop in again when I'm on that side of town, I'd like to try the eggrolls everyone keep raving about.

My day started off wonderful hereeee !!! I wish I would've gotten any pictures from this hidden Gem ! As someone else's review mentioned , I though I was gonna walk in to a fishy smell WRONG !! It damn near smells like their house ! The little girl running around in a diaper talking about Spiderman was a really good touch to the place ! My boyfriend and I got the 12 boiled shrimp with rice and I'm a terrible rice cooker so some of the comments ideas about the rice being awful , I didn't think so. It was shrimp fried rice and it was good the shrimp were HUGE and I still had half left over from my plate , I think my boyfriend paid a solid 12$ for it so 24$ for both plates. If you enjoy a family setting you'll LOVE this place ! The shrimp were deveined and butterfly'd down the middle and had enough seasoning , I'll be back and spread the word , thanks mamas !!!

This is probably the best fried fish and jumbo shrimp i've ever had. It is cooked and seasoned so perfectly, i have no complaints at all. I get the rice alone with it and it doesn't have too much flavor, it's just right. The egg rolls are also great. Mamas Seafood is definitely the way to go for good fish and shrimp.

If there was a list for Houston's top beat kept secrets of consistent tasty foods that have been operating for a minimum of a couple decades... this one would definitely be on there. The fried fish and shrimp - amazing would be an understatement. Their secret is to just produce simple fried fish... simplicity is really hard to pull off. Not greasy, great batter - all contributing to be able to eat more.

Pretty darn good.. when i walked in i was expecting this fishy smell but qas pleasantly surprised that i did not. The place is your typical you buy we fry offering several combos of catfish or trout with regular or jumbo shrimp. I opted for the catfish and jumbo shrimp. They both were fried well and the service was good. I would only ask for more seasoning, but i would recommend if your on this side of town.

Anyone who is not a fan of this seafood has to be one of those disgruntled customers that never happy about anything. This is THE best fried fish and shrimp that I've ever had in Houston. Each order is cooked when you order it so your food will be fresh. They use an ultra fine corn meal which gives the seafood a wonderful crisp. But on top of that the seasoning they use is out of sight jack! Dy-no-miiite!!! I think I tasted a little MSG but couldn't be sure. But honestly I eat like this no more than twice a year so a little MSG is OK with me. Folks will blast an Asian restaurant for using it but will go right home and pop open a can of vegetables or eat a hot dog. Guess what dum dum, there's MSG in that too. Anyway I digress. Their catfish is extraordinary, its not fishy and is so light and flaky it nearly melts in your mouth. The contrast of the crisp cornmeal and the flaky white fish was an explosion in my mouth! OK that didn't come out quite like I thought but you get the idea. The shrimp were just as fresh. They're plump and had a nice snap to them. The jumbo shrimp are not much larger than the regular size so for the cost just get the regular ones. Now this is where I had to deduct a star. Don't ever, eva, eva, eveeeer get the fried rice. I'm actually a little pissed off about it because like how can you not get the rice right?! You did the hard part! You figured out how to turn fish and shrimp into nuggets of gold and then you slack on the sides?! Come on bruh! That rice is NOT fried. Child, its regular fluffy white rice with a few specks of mixed veggies and none of it has ever seen the inside of a wok. Honey I opened that box and knew that rice was for aesthetics only. I humored myself by taking one spoonful and yup, horrible. I haven't had the fries but I've heard they aren't much better. And lastly, be prepared to wait. Bring a snack, put your mail on hold, water your plants and walk your dog because you're going to wait. When I ordered they gave me #86 and I turned around to find a seat he called for #64 (face palm). All that being said I drove 30 minutes to try this spot and if you don't think I'll drive 30 minutes the next time I want so fried delicious goodness than you don't know me as well as I thought you did.
